2010 Icons of New Zealand
New Zealand Post is proud to express our country’s unique links with the land and sky, through our national bird, the kiwi, and our national emblem, the Southern Cross.
Issue information
These handsome coins are the second in a three-year series that presents New Zealand’s most loved bird, the kiwi, together with another distinctly ‘New Zealand’ icon.
In 2010 this image is the Southern Cross – our official emblem and one of the smallest constellations known. Like the kiwi, the Southern Cross has been part of New Zealand’s national identity for more than 100 years, and it continues to permeate our society as a symbol of patriotism and pride. As the name for ships bringing settlers to a new land, a symbol for our soldiers in far-off lands and an integral part of our national flag, it represents a guiding light for all who live here.
