New Zealand Post is proud to present the world’s first ever All Blacks coin and it’s all black!
Issue information
The ‘2011 All Blacks Coin: the silver fern’ encapsulates the silver fern (Cyathea Dealbata) in all its glory. Distinctive for its silver underside, the native ponga fern is well known as part of New Zealand’s national identity, and is the trademarked symbol of the internationally recognised All Blacks rugby team.
The overwhelming success of the All Blacks is intertwined with the strong values they represent: Heritage, Commitment, Power, Respect, Mana, and Inspiration. The mystique and power of the All Blacks legend has been passed down for generations - from the image of the silver fern on the distinctive black jersey to the heritage of prize-winning rugby.
The chant of ‘All Blacks, All Blacks, All Blacks’ has been heard around the world for over a century, and the power and spirit of this team is never more apparent than when laying down the challenge to a respected opponent with the traditional pre-game Haka. Created in honour of the inspirational team, the first ever All Blacks coin pays tribute to their enduring legacy.
