2010 Maui's Dolphin
Maui’s dolphin (Cephalorhynchus hectori maui, or ‘te ika a Maui’ in Māori) is one of nature’s miracles and is unique to New Zealand.
Issue information
Easily identified by its distinctive round dorsal fin, Maui's Dolphin is only found in the waters off the West Coast of the North Island and is the world's rarest marine dolphin with only about 100 alive today.
In 2010, we salute this beautiful animal through two intricately designed $5 New Zealand legal tender coins that capture its grace and oneness with the sea: a pure silver proof coin and a brilliant uncirculated coin. These are offered individually and in sets.
