Issue information
Officially established in 1937, the RNZAF has made a considerable contribution to war and peace-time efforts in New Zealand and around the world. It’s an organisation steeped in tradition and heritage, and the service it has provided to New Zealand has played a key role in shaping our nation’s military history.
For the past 75 years the RNZAF has been actively involved in a range of duties from its participation in World War II and its support of operations in South East Asia, to its important role in search and rescue and international peacekeeping operations. It also partakes in activities such as aerial topdressing, and recognises the importance of ‘remembrance’ through aerial salutes. The dedicated personnel of the RNZAF have played a vital role in the organisations’ success and in protecting and defending Aotearoa, New Zealand.
