‘Have a ball’ with stamps and coins for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

23 January 2015

New Zealand Post has been working on products for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 that will bowl people for six - a sheet of cricket ball-shaped stamps and New Zealand’s first ever curved legal tender commemorative coin.

“The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is one of the biggest international sporting events in the world, and we’re excited that New Zealand is co-hosting with Australia once more. The last time we co-hosted this mega event was 1992,” said Simon Allison, Head of Stamps and Coins at New Zealand Post, “We’re thrilled to be able to bring collectors and cricket fans worldwide some new, innovative products to commemorate this international event.”

The issue consists of a sheet of 14 self-adhesive stamps, a set of first day covers and a 1oz silver proof curved coin with selective gold plating.

The 1oz silver proof commemorative coin incorporates several design elements to resemble a one day cricket ball. One of these elements includes a curved design - a first for New Zealand commemorative coins. The coin is limited to just 2,015 coins worldwide and comes in a specially designed cricket ball-shaped coin case.

The stamps come in a sheet of 14; one representing each team battling it out to become ICC Cricket World Cup champion. Each stamp incorporates the official ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 logo as well as the team colours and makes a great collectable from the event.

This issue is available for purchase from 4 February 2015 at all New Zealand PostShops and REAL Aotearoa stores in Wellington and Auckland. Pre-orders are being taken now through the Whanganui Collectables and Solutions Centre or online at www.nzpost.co.nz/stamps.
