New Zealand Post brings back the Buck!

19 October 2010

All Blacks legend Wayne (Buck) Shelford was today presented with an All Blacks coin, just released by New Zealand Post.

Shelford was delighted to receive the ‘Number 8’ one dollar coin. The tails side of the 2011 All Blacks Coin: the silver fern is blacked out with the exception of the one dollar denomination and the official All Blacks logo, both shining through in pure silver.

James Te Puni from New Zealand Post said the coin was created in honour of New Zealand’s inspirational national rugby team, and released at a significant point in history as the count down to one of the biggest years for the All Blacks and New Zealand begins.

“This coin release pays tribute to the enduring legacy of the All Blacks. As this is the first ever All Blacks commemorative coin, we felt that it was fitting to involve the legendary Buck Shelford,” Mr Te Puni said.

The one ounce pure silver coin is authorised by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and, as per all New Zealand legal tender coins, has a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the ‘heads’ side.

The 2011 All Blacks Coin: the silver fern is the first commemorative coin release from New Zealand Post, under an exclusive licensing agreement with the New Zealand Rugby Union.
